SPANISH PROGRAM AT UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE CÓRDOBA

Since 2000, Universidad Católica de Córdoba has offered programs in Spanish as a Second Language for non-native speakers of Spanish who want to improve their language skills for academic, professional, or personal reasons.

There are two programs offered:

Semester-long program

This Program follows the same academic calendar as the Universidad Católica de Córdoba: March to July (SM1) and August to December (SM2). Classes begin on the same day as the first day of regular academic classes for the University. Final exams are held at the end of the semester.

UCC offers Spanish courses from basic to advanced levels with a curriculum designed to prepare students to interact in the Spanish-speaking academic, social, and professional world.

Our professors, who are specially trained in teaching Spanish as a second language, are committed to both helping students achieve their academic goals and providing them with an exciting international experience.

The Program offers three levels of Spanish language instruction: beginning, intermediate and advanced. Prior to the course, students are given a placement test to determine the course level that best fits their needs.

Course Description

The courses give students the opportunity to improve their communicative competence in Spanish and gain confidence in using the language. They learn vocabulary, practice appropriate conversation about different topics, and receive pronunciation instruction. Besides, reading skills are developed so that they can cope with the extensive academic reading required in university courses. Students are also trained to write in a variety of different genres including but not limited to academic contexts. In each level of instruction, students learn the grammatical structures necessary to speak, read, and write with fluency and accuracy.

Each four-hour-a-week course is designed to be completed in one semester and aims to train students in Speaking & Listening; Reading; Writing, and Grammar. A student must successfully complete one level in order to advance to the next level. Advancement is accomplished by fulfilling all course requirements (e.g., attendance, active participation in class, completion of graded homework assignments, quizzes or tests as well as by passing the final test at the end of the semester.

Intensive Spanish course

This 80-contact-hour course is offered in February and July every year to people interested in developing their Spanish language skills in a short period of time. This crash course aims to develop the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills individuals need for effective communication. The small size of the class (up to 15 students on average) guarantees personalized instruction and effective learning. It includes an Intensive Spanish course and a course on Argentine culture designed to familiarize students with Argentine lifestyles, art and music, values and standards. Educational and recreational trips are included as part of the Program and offer students opportunities to visit local sites such as museums, neighbourhoods and nearby towns.
