Centro de Capacitación de Agricultura Sostenible en Thailandia

El evento es una iniciativa de Su Majestad el Rey Bhumibol Adulyadej de Thailandia para alcanzar el desarrollo sustentable y enfrentar los desafíos de la globalización.

Geoffrey Longfellow was born in Maryland in 1954. He first went to Thailand in 1977, as a volunteer with the United States Peace Corps. Subsequently, Longfellow worked as an advocate for Indochinese refugees, who sought asylum in The United States. He then returned to pursue a master’s degree from The Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of The Johns Hopkins University.

Longfellow has worked at the National Economic and Social Development Board of Thailand, and later established and managed an oil palm plantation in southern Thailand. He has represented various foreign business organizations, including Cap Gemini, Galileo Asset Management, and Sotheby’s. Following the economic crisis which swept Southeast Asia in 1997, Longfellow helped facilitate debt buy backs for several leading Thai corporations.

Having maintained an ongoing interest in international affairs, Longfellow has been an adjunct lecturer at both Chulalongkorn and Thammasat universities. He has taught courses in American Foreign Policy, and has done live coverage of several U.S. presidential elections on Thai network television. Longfellow has addressed numerous foreign investors and business groups on the changing face of Thai political culture.

Since 1995, Longfellow has been a volunteer for several projects under the auspices of the Bureau of the Royal Household. He has been an advisor to the Vimanmek Palace, and has helped formulate long range planning for better facilitating visitors. He has escorted foreign guests on visits to the royal projects in many areas of rural Thailand. Longfellow has always had a keen interest in the improvement of educational standards of the country at large, but especially in rural areas.

In 2013, Longfellow was asked to take up a position as project manager at the Thailand Sustainable Development Foundation. He was asked to visit many provinces in rural Thailand, and to identify problems which have arisen as a result of globalization. As a result of these visits, an ongoing dialogue has emerged. The foundation has invited numerous participants from various parts of the country to share their fears and aspiration for the future.

Longfellow is a fluent speaker of the Thai language. He was granted Thai citizenship in 2006.
